How to alter your DNS to resolve a 612/613 Geolocation Error (NJ)

Jurisdiction: NJ

  1. Open up Settings in the Windows Menu

  1. Click on the “Network and Internet” tab

  1. Click on “Wi-Fi” and select the network that you’re on.

  1. Select network properties

  1. Scroll to DNS server assignment and click "Edit"

  1. Select "Manual" and toggle the "IPv4" switch to the On position.

  1. For Google Public (reliable with Chrome): Under the Preferred DNS, enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for the Alternate DNS. For Cloudflare: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1, respectively.

  1. Click Save and you are all set! Your geolocation issues caused by the DNS settings of your router should be resolved. If not, please see our instructions on how to disable DNS rebind below, as this may also resolve your 612/613 error.

On iOS Devices

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Network.
  2. In the list at the left, select the network connection service you want to use (such as Wi-Fi or Ethernet), then click Advanced.
  3. Click DNS, then click the Add button at the bottom of the DNS Servers list. Enter the IPv4 or IPv6 address for the DNS server.
  4. Click the Add button at the bottom of the Search Domain list, then enter the search domain—for example, apple.com.
  5. When you’re finished, click OK.

How to disable DNS Rebind

  1. Enter "192.168.1.1" into your URL bar and then hit enter. Some browsers may issue a warning message, and if that happens, click "Advanced" and then "Proceed to 192.168.1.1"
  2. This will bring you to the Fios Network settings login page, and from there you just have to input the "Network Settings Password" on the back of your router to process

  1. Once logged in, select the "Advanced" tab at the top of the page. Then, from the options on the left-hand menu, expand the "Network Settings" group and select the "DNS Server" option. This will redirect to the screen in my screenshot below, and then we just have to remove the X from "Enable DNS Rebind Protection." Once this is removed, restart your device, and then you should be able to locate.
